When it comes to the internet, studies show that it is extremely important for rankings to have your NAP+W (Business Name, Address, Phone Number + Website) listed correctly. Choose a way to spell out your business name, choose 1 phone number, stick to 1 address, and 1 website URL.

Sit down and think of your ideal customer. Are they men? Women? Young? Older? Lower class? Upper class? Homeowners? Once you know who they are it’s easier and CHEAPER to advertise to them.

Now that you know your customers, try your best to think like them. When they need your services, they’re going to look somewhere. Over the last 8 years, the internet is the place to look. Submit your business name, address & phone number in as many directories as possible. Here are the top 4 places people look:

    1. Google
    2. Yelp
    3. Yahoo/Bing
    4. Facebook (that’s right)

But don’t stop there. List yourself in many directories, even the ones that you haven’t heard of to increase rankings. Remember, this is something you know now & chances are your competitors know this too. Whoever does it the best will be first in the ranking race.

About 40% of small businesses still don’t have a website. Google My Business, Google’s business listing, now offers a free website. It’s not the best site, and it might not get you to rank, but it’s better than nothing. 

Although there are many website building programs that are free or very cheap, such as Wix, I personally do not recommend them. Your competitors have custom websites with custom SEO (Search Engine Optimization), Blogs, recent updates, videos, images, etc. Why would Google chose your low-quality website over theirs?

Google has a mission to give users the best answer to their question. A site that is not mobile friendly is not going to be the #1 recommendation by Google.

A website is a business tool, just like your other tools, don’t be cheap.

Why do you want a website?

  • Customers have questions. The business to answer them and inform them best gets the call.
  • Your competitors have a site, why don’t you?
  • List what you want people to see, such as hours, offers, list of specific services, reviews, pictures, rates, etc.
  • A website can generate you leads!

So let’s say that you don’t like Facebook or any social media platform.

Well, it doesn’t mean that your customers feel the same way. Set up a business Facebook page, Instagram page, Twitter and if it applies, Pinterest. Social media is where you can be you and have your customers see that.

Social media is another great business tool to engage better with prospects and encourage them that you are the company to go with. When customers look for your services, they are also looking at your competitors, give them something good to compare! 

Social media can also generate leads and help with rankings. Keeping up with the social media accounts you set up (Facebook, Instagram, twitter, etc) can be a pain, but it’s recommended that you maintain the main ones that your clients are on.

If you want calls and you want them NOW, this is the best way. It’s going to be a little more expensive and you will need to dedicate more time into it, but it pays off. Google Ads, Bing Ads, Yahoo! Ads Lots of people use Google & other engines to search for what they need.

You can pay the search engines to have your business be one of the first ones listed. SEO, Search Engine Optimization, can do something similar for you as well, but the paid ads will always be on top and SEO takes a long time.
